CERTIFICATE IN COMPUTER APPLICATIONS(CCA)

Apart from the mainstream courses pf DEP,DEC and CEC. The ICT department of  Sancta Maria Core primary Teachers’ College Nkokonjeru has introduced a short Certificate course in computer Applications. This is a hands-on course that introduces students to computer technologies and applications and equips them with basic skills to use up-to-date computer software for Word Processing , Electronic spread sheets , Database Management , Presentation, Communication, E-Learning , Information processing and use of a computer as a central tool in teaching and learning 

Course Duration: 15 weeks (30 hours)

OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE

The overall objective of this course is to enable students develop an understanding of the principles and theory of behind computer technologies and applications ,to develop skills in using computer to collect , analyze and edit  data and to manipulate, process , present and communicate information to different sectors . In addition , students will be able to be grounded in the proper use of the internet for research.   

Specifically ,through this course the student will be able to:-

  • Understand Computer Fundamentals ,Concept of ICT , identify and use common ICT Tools in various fields.
  • Perform file and folder management ,backup files on Magnetic, Optical and Solid State Storage Devices/Media.
  • Describe Various categories of Software and Hardware.
  • create, Save, edit Format and print Word processing files for the purpose of producing assignments, research reports , letters and Email massages.
  • Know some basic computer trouble shooting tips.
  • Use the internet to browse for information and download files and programs.
  • Use email software to send and receive messages and attachments.
  • Use spreadsheets software to manage financial and research data and perform a basic statistical analysis of the research data.
  • Use spreadsheet software to create, Save , edit, format and manipulate data using in-built formulas and functions, use Charts to represent data.
  • Create Power point presentations that are composed of both texts and graphical information.
  • Create and manage a flat file database with the Access software  

Method of Evaluation:

Students final course grade will be based upon the practical assignment from each of the course components.
