COLLEGE RULES AND REGULATIONS

1. ADMISSIONS a) All admissions are made under the supervision of Ministry of Education and Sports according to the guidelines that clearly spell out the entry requirements. b) Students seeking admission must meet these requirements before they are registered. c) Breach of either[a] or [b] above or forgery or impersonation will be treated as an unlawful act by the parties involved and will be referred to police to handle. 2. OBEDIENCE TO AUTHORITY All students must at all times obey and respect the college authority vested in the Principal, Deputy Principal, Tutors and the Guild Council to whom the authority of the Principal may be delegated from time to time. Disobedience, obstruction, rudeness, insubordination and refusal to cooperate with authority are acts which contravene this rule and shall lead to warning, then suspension ranging from two weeks to indefinite suspension. 3. PUNCTUALITY All students shall observe punctuality at all times, events and functions prescribed by the timetable. Failure to do so shall lead to a warning and/ or punishment. Repeated breach of this rule shall lead to suspension ranging from two weeks to indefinite suspension. 4. RELIGION / RELIGIOUS PRACTICES. Sancta Maria PTC is a Catholic founded institution whose motto is “That they May know you the only True God”. Therefore, besides preparing quality teachers for the Ugandan Primary Schools, the college has programmes that include spiritual formation. All students must adhere to these programmes as organised by the Chaplain and endorsed by the Principal. Part of these programmes includes attending Mass every Wednesday and Sunday and daily evening prayers. Breach of this rule shall lead to warning and or suspension. 5. ORDER AND SILENCE. a) No student shall indulge in any behavior that is likely to provoke others or lead to strike or bully that causes a breach of order in the community. b) All students shall observe silence and orderly behavior during study and preparation time, in church, during evening prayers, at assembly, during lights out and other prescribed times. Breach of this rule shall lead to a warning and / or punishment, including indefinite suspension. c) Public pay phones have been provided to facilitate communication (0782611275 & 0783388552). This should only be accessed during break time. Breach of this rule will lead to punishment or suspension. d) No student shall posses a mobile phone or any other communication gadget will at college. Breach of this rule will lead to confiscation of the mobile phone and / punishment. 6. LANGUAGE English is the official medium of communication. Students must speak English at all times. 7. COLLEGE BOUNDS Going out of college bounds without permission from the Principal, Deputy Principal OR Tutor on duty leads to self expulsion. Therefore a permission chit will be provided for those wishing to leave college bounds. b) The following areas are out of bounds to ALL students. • The dormitories during class time • All STAFF quarters • Anywhere else outside the prescribed college compound. Breach of any above will lead to suspension. 8. BEHAVIOR a) Immoral behavior but not limited to examination malpractices, homosexuality, in descent exposure of one’s body, any form of sexual perversion, etc is forbidden and shall lead to indefinite suspension. b) Any form of theft shall lead to initial warning, suspension or indefinite suspension depending on the gravity of the offence. 9. FOOD a) All students shall accept the type and amount of food the college provides for meals. No special food shall be served. Breach of this rule shall lead to warning, suspension or indefinite suspension. b) Students are expected to take turns in the preparation of food like peeling or serving and harvesting when called upon. 10. ABSENTEEISM a) All students shall report to the college on the first day of the term. Failure to do so without prior notification to the college shall lead to a two week suspension. b) No student shall absent herself from any lesson without permission from the college authority. Breach of this rule shall lead to punishment and if repeated to suspension. c) A student who does not report to the college within two weeks of opening the term without prior notice will be deemed to have absconded. 11. UNIFORM The school uniform must be worn at all times from waking up till the end of classes, i.e. from Monday to Friday; and for all church services, official functions and when leaving and returning to the college. Breach of this rule will result into punishment. 12. HEALTH a) Students shall report all cases of illness to the nurse for reference for further treatment. Cases beyond the available resources shall be referred to the nearest hospital or the parent will be informed to take charge. b) Parents must report all cases of chronic illnesses to the college with evidence from a doctor. Self – medication is prohibited. Breach of this rule shall lead to warning, punishment or suspension. c) Students shall observe the basic rules of hygiene with regard to their bodies, clothing, dormitories and entire environment in which they live. Breach of this rule shall lead to a warning, punishment or suspension. 13. VISITORS a) Students shall be visited only on prescribed days and within the college premises from 10:00am to 5:00pm. b) Under no circumstances shall visitors be allowed into the classrooms or dormitories during visitation Day. Breach of this rule leads to suspension or indefinite suspension. 14.SAFETY AND SECURITY a) Possession of firearms, dangerous weapons, candles, match boxes or any inflammable liquid or corrosive substance by students at college is strictly prohibited and shall lead to indefinite suspension. b)Students must be on the lookout for suspicious characters likely to cause trouble and immediately report to the college authority. c)Any form of demonstration, riotous act, and instigation of hooliganism intended or likely to cause civil disobedience or unrest in or outside the college is prohibited and shall lead to indefinite suspension. 15.SCHOOL PRACTICE a) All students are obliged to fully participate in the prescribed school practice as laid down by the curriculum. Failure to participate will lead to repetition of the second year and at the students own expense. b) While out for school practice, a student is still bound by all the rules as stated above and must seek permission from the immediate Head Teacher and also inform the college in case of sickness or absenteeism.
